Care & Maintenance

Tough Thredz LLC aerial straps are engineered to be state-of-the-art, crafted from military-grade materials and bonded with double-knit micro suede for superior comfort. Standard features include Natural Dyneema webbing and bonded, spun Kevlar thread. All of our aerial strap designs have a maximum breaking strength of 8,565 lbs, with a working load limit of 856 lbs per individual strap.

Users must account for normal wear and tear when using these straps. All aerial straps experience wear over time. Repeated use at the connection points causes Dyneema fibers to degrade, which can weaken and eventually compromise the connection. The user is fully responsible for tracking the use, condition, and history of their straps. Our straps are certified for two years of standard use and should be replaced after this period.

RETIRING STRAPS FROM SERVICE

Straps should be retired from use if any of the following occur:

  • Any part of the straps becomes worn, cut, or damaged. (Apply the 10% rule: if 10% of the fibers at any attachment point or buckle strap are lost to cutting or abrasion, the straps must be retired.)

  • Exposure to heat above 200°F.

  • Contact with harmful chemicals.

  • Two years have passed since the manufacturing date.

  • Any section of the straps has experienced a shock load exceeding 856 lbs.

CLEANING

Wipe straps with a clean, damp cloth and hang to dry. Avoid direct sunlight. Never use a washing machine or dryer. For heavier cleaning, hand-wash with cool water and a small amount of Ivory Snow, Woolite, or Seventh Generation dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and hang in a cool, dry area. After exposure to salt water or pool water, rinse with fresh tap water to prolong the life of the straps.
